Vera Neumann Scarves

Textile designer from the 1950's and 1960's, Vera Neumann is having a well deserved revival, most recently at Anthropologie in NYC where her work is currently on display. Designsponge today has gorgeous and interesting photos of this exhibit that includes some screens made to print her work.

Today I show just a little taste of her famous signature, but I promise more to come this weekend, as I will post more from my own Vera collection. It is a treasure trove for any graphic artist or textile designer. Her work is so inspiring!

In the meantime, you may want to check out these scarves from an earlier post on this blog.

Summer PRINTS on Vintage Dresses

One of the best parts about summer are the dresses. After a winter of jeans, having a chance to change styles in a big way is so much fun. In this post we showcase several of our latest vintage dresses that are right on trend for Summmer 2009.

Our first 2 dresses from the 1970's show wonderful prints like those now appearing on nearly every dress rack in town. Ours are soft, fluttery and perfect for a hot evening or sunny afternoon. The white dress with a floral print has a rare matching over blouse to complete the outfit--a vintage look we adore! The dramatic goddess neckline in blue floral is so gorgeous. We can see these at an evening concert in the park or dinner at a small bistro.

Our next set 3 dresses from the 1970's and 80's have cute stripes that are so popular now. These showcase only a few of the larger group that we couldn't fit on the page! Whether you prefer a great chevron pattern in the skirt, diagonals in the bodice, or the luxury of a soft crepe with matching scarf, you will find stripes this year come in ice cream colors, ready for sun and beachy fun.

Don't miss wearing a super cute dress this summer!

Forties Fashion: from Siren Suits to the New Look

BOOK REVIEW: Forties Fashion by Jonathan Walford

"Forties Fashion" is a comprehensive look at woman's fashion trends during the 1940's in Europe, Canada, and the U.S. More than just a fashion picture book, the content covers the era, with well chosen images from popular media.

There are many actual garments shown carefully displayed on white figures. This choice brings a sense of validity to the work, setting it aside from other recent texts where historical fashions are displayed on living models with a great degree of inaccuracy and amateur styling. Garments here are shown with accessories to give a better silhouette of the period.

Most important is the wide scope of apparel shown and discussed, making this a necessary part of any costumer, vintage collector or fashion student's library.
